Torres dilemma for Del Bosque

(GSM) Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has revealed that he still remains undecided as to field Fernando Torres in the starting line-up for Sunday s World Cup final against Netherlands.

After a series of lackluster performances and failure to a goal at the World Cup, Torres was dropped to the bench for the semi-final victory over Germany, with Barcelona forward Pedro taking his place in the Spain side.

Pedro, who did fail to tee up Torres for an almost certain goal late in the game in Durban, impressed on the wings and made a strong case for his inclusion in the starting XI that will take the field on Sunday.

This has left Del Bosque undecided whether to bench Torres, who scored Spain s winning goal in the final of Euro 2008.

Hodgson: Sterling can win 100 England caps

England manager Roy Hodgson believes forward Raheem Sterling can win over 100 caps for the national team.

Sterling has played 16 matches for England since debuting in November 2012, and the Manchester City forward is set to add to his appearances against Switzerland in UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old s international career, however, has been stop-start, having waited two years to earn his second cap.

Only nine players Peter Shilton, David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Bobby Moore, Ashley Cole, Bobby Charlton, Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney and Billy Wright have earned 100 or more appearances for England but Hodgson has tipped Sterling to join the centurion club after settling in quick at City.

His first games for City have been good, Hodgso…

Marchetti nears Lazio exit

Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti is ready to quit Stadio Olimpico at the end of the season, .

Despite being regarded as one of Italy s top goalkeepers until recently, the 31-year-old has lost his place in the starting line-up this term to Etrit Berisha.

As a result, he will miss out on Italy s World Cup squad and everything suggests he will be leaving Lazio at the end of the season.

Not so long ago, Marchetti had a long list of suitors among Europe s top clubs and he should have no shortage of offers at the end of the season.

Napoli have recently shown interest in the experienced shot-stopper and they could step up their efforts if Pepe Reina leaves the club in the summer.

Federico Marchetti joined Lazio from Cagliari in the summer of 2011 and…

Pochettino spares Foyth of further blame

Mauricio Pochettino absolved Juan Foyth of blame for conceding two penalties on his Premier League debut but urged Tottenham to be more responsible defensively.

Spurs survived a stern late examination to return to the top four with a nervy 3-2 win at Wolves on Saturday.

The visitors seemed on course for a straightforward victory when Harry Kane struck to establish a three-goal buffer on the hour, but Foyth s fouls allowed Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez to set up a tense final 10 minutes.

Kieran Tripper was guilty of cheaply conceding possession for the second, prompting Pochettino to remind his team of their duty to learn from errors.

With the 3-0 lead I think everyone thought the game was over, but when you make a mistake you need to play more seriousl…

Ozil: My Arsenal future does not depend on Wenger

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil claims everything is open regarding a new deal at Emirates Stadium and insists the future of boss Arsene Wenger will not define his own.

Germany international Ozil is out of contract at the end of next season and the possibility of himself and star forward Alexis Sanchez penning lucrative fresh terms in north London has been a consistent narrative over recent months, as Arsenal s form on the field has faded.

Ozil s dwindling performances have mirrored those of the team as a whole, bringing the 28-year-old in for considerable criticism, while long-serving boss Wenger was the subject of fan marches before this week s matches against Bayern Munich and Lincoln City that called for him to step down.

Despite this turbulence, the former W…

Aston Villa and Newcastle among several clubs looking at Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster

Aston Villa and Newcastle United are among the clubs interested in signing Rhian Brewster from Premier League rivals Liverpool in the summer transfer window, according to .

Brighton and Hove Albion, Burnley, Crystal Palace and Fulham are also interested in the 20-year-old striker, and so are Bournemouth, Norwich City and Watford, who were all relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

All the aforementioned clubs are reported to be interested in signing Brewster on a season-long loan deal this summer. The 20-year-old is training with the Liverpool first team in Austria at the moment, having returned to the Reds from a loan spell at Swansea City in the Championship.

The England Under-21 international striker joined the Swans on loan from Li…

Bayern shunned Sancho move

The Mail Online understand that Bayern Munich rejected the chance to sign Jordan Sancho prior to his move to Borussia Dortmund.

The eighteen-year-old moved to Germany from Manchester City on transfer deadline day 2017, and he has since racked up twenty-two appearances in all competitions scoring twice.

He spent two seasons in City’s youth setup, during which time he established himself as a regular for England’s U16 and U17 while he made his senior international debut in Friday evening’s UEFA Nations League draw with Croatia.

He was part of the U17 side that won the World Cup last year while he was named the Player of the Tournament in the European Championships in the same year, with England finishing second.

After picking up four points from…

Is this Chelsea’s year for Champions League victory?

English champions Chelsea kick-off their Champions League campaign with a trip to Slovakian side MSK Zilina.

The Blues start the competition as one of the favourites for the competition, as they do most seasons.

Holy Grail

The Champions League is the Holy Grail of trophies for Chelsea fans and owner Roman Abramovich.

The Russian billionaire has pumped money into Chelsea and has got his reward with Premier League titles but the Champions League is the trophy he now craves.

I believe that Abramovich would rather win the Champions League than retain the Premier League title this season. Although a double would please the Russian even more.

It is the trophy that is missing from the trophy cabinet at Stamford Bridge. The Champions have come so…

Is the loss of John Terry really such a loss?

Really such a loss?

I keep reading what a major blow it is that England will be without Chelsea defender John Terry for tonight s Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro. Terry has dropped out of the Wembley encounter with a back injury.

Association

The Football Association said,

Terry was assessed by England medical staff on Sunday and will not be fit to play any part in Tuesday s game.

The twenty-nine year old defender had an operation in 2006 to cure a back problem and this current injury is likely to be a recurrence. He has a reputation of being something of a warrior and is notorious for shrugging off minor problems, but he was forced out of the double-header against Bulgaria and Switzerland with a hamstring injury and this will mean he has o…

Swansea agree Kingsley deal

Swansea City have completed the signing of teenage left-back Stephen Kingsley from Falkirk.

Kingsley penned a three-year contract at the Liberty Stadium on Monday after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

The 19-year-old defender has ended a nine-year association with the Scottish Championship side, which saw him make 108 appearances after breaking into the first-team in 2011.

He becomes Garry Monk s third new addition during the close-season, with Lukasz Fabianski and Bafetimbi Gomis previously agreeing moves to the Premier League side.

Peter Houston, who was appointed Falkirk manager earlier this month, told his club s official website: Whilst I m sad to see him leave, it is a wonderful opportunity for Stephen to progress his career.
