Pele and the ´milesimo´: 50 years on, why his 1,000th goal still matters

It was the year of Easy Rider, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Midnight Cowboy, Kes and The Italian Job; Abbey Road, Let It Bleed, Dusty In Memphis and Kick Out The Jams.

OK boomer.

Woodstock was a totemic cultural moment in 1969 but so too the first flight of the Boeing 747, the wedding and bed-in of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, the Stonewall riots and the first manned Moon landing, Neil Armstrong and all that jazz. And jazz. Miles Davis’ classic In A Silent Way split critics down the middle.

There was Monty Python s television debut but also the Manson Family murders and the ongoing Vietnam War. The US magazine Life revealed at least 12 million Americans had experimented with marijuana.

Klopp ´couldn´t respect Simeone more´ as Liverpool boss puts handshake spat behind him

Jurgen Klopp insists he could not respect Diego Simeone more for his record with Atletico Madrid as he moved to put their handshake controversy firmly behind them.

Liverpool host Atleti in the Champions League on Wednesday two weeks on from their hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Spanish champions at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Klopp went to shake Simeone s hand at full-time of that contest, but the Argentine ran straight down the tunnel, prompting the Liverpool manager to wave to his back – something for which Klopp expressed regret soon afterwards.

Now he knows Simeone rarely engages in post-match formalities on the touchline, Klopp said he will have no problem should Simeone head straight for the dressing rooms after the game at Anfield.

The 2010 Ligue 1 champions suffered a 2-1 defeat to Bastia at the weekend which leaves them just six points above the relegation zone with six matches to play.

But Louis-Dreyfus confirmed in a statement that the club will stick by Michel for the remainder of the Ligue 1 campaign, as well as the Coupe de France semi-final with Sochaux on April 20.

The current situation is delicate and represe…
